227th Street, Maple Ridge

Yesterday I came across some poor workmanship I thought I would share. This cable/chain assembly, common to the newly installed operator, required to be shortened since there was a problematic supporting beam that ran across the garage ceiling. The installer simply cut the cable to length, tied a knot, and secured the assembly with a big ugly bolt. Not only does it look terrible, the installer charged extra for this and refused to return to fix it, when it failed less than a year after it was installed.

I replaced the cable, cut it to the correct length and swaged a small aluminum collar to produce a small loop that would attach the drive chain. Just like everything, there is both the correct way and the incorrect way of solving a problem.
